What are you looking at?
Through the years that I worked in Hollywood, oftentimes as I had an actor in the makeup chair they would read a script or close their eyes to relax for a moment before going on camera. I noticed when they looked up to check the mirror, In almost every case, their eyes would land on the same part of the face each time.
When I wasn't on a shoot, I had time for private bookings. I would see clients for a Face Design to go over skin type, face shape, organization of makeup, contouring, the tools needed, lighting, hairstyles, and all makeup concerns. I would create a large blueprint with all of what we discussed documented in a guide for them. (I still love to do them when I have time.) During the Face Design, I noticed the same thing--each time the client looked up to check the mirror, their eyes went right to the same part of the face. After many years and through much delicate conversation, I finally figured it out!
For decades I had been watching lovely women when asked to check the mirror--immediately direct their eyes to the feature they were most self-conscious of and least liked about themselves. I learned firsthand how common it is for women to judge themselves harshly.
Stop it.
From then on, when it was time for a client to check the mirror, I began to change the way I spoke. Reaching for a warm, encouraging tone I would say something like, "Sit back, and take an overall glance, get the whole picture of how it's all working together and see how you feel."
Grooming is a lovely act of self-care that is good for your spirit and can elevate your mood. I'm not talking about changing your face artificially. I'm talking about truly seeing and caring for your skin, face, and posture without vanity, or comparing yourself to others. And more importantly; owning that there is so much more to you than what we see in the mirror.
One of the reasons I love energy medicine so much is because it never lies. It speaks of the emotion that authentically moves through you and the quality of the energy you're radiating. Carrying anxiety about what others think of your looks, or fear of not appearing a certain way is low vibrational. You know you're evolving when caring for your skin and applying makeup becomes relaxing and enjoyable. Self-love is high vibrational.
Isn't it wonderful to be a grown-ass woman in charge of your own energy!
So the next time you lose touch with your own loveliness, and your eyes drift to that "place" in your face you're a little uncertain of...from me to you: take a deep breath, "Sit back, and take an overall glance, get the whole picture of how it's all working together and see how you feel."
Gosh, I love ya so big.
