Mastering the Mind:
A Key to Reversing Aging and Releasing Anxiety

I live in the desert and today it will get up to 115 degrees. It's time to hunker down and keep it close to home for a while. The low-grade level of stress that comes from not being able to enjoy the outdoors can feel a bit like the lockdowns. So I have to have a plan to keep my body in shape--even though I'm walking fewer miles per week and to keep my spirits up--even though I'm spending less time in nature.

Life often presents us with challenges that test our resilience, patience, and strength. For many women, these challenges can feel particularly overwhelming as we balance the demands of career, family, and personal growth. Amidst this balancing act, one of the most critical aspects of our well-being is often overlooked: our thoughts. It is in the space between our ears where the most significant battles are fought, and our main job as humans is to master this part of ourselves.

Today I'm sharing some of my strategies for joy amidst the challenges--whatever challenge you may be facing, even if it's not heat related like mine.

The Impact of Stress on Aging

Recent research shows us over and over the profound connection between stress and the aging process. A study published in the journal "Nature Communications" in 2023 revealed that chronic stress can accelerate cellular aging. The study showed that individuals who experience high levels of stress have shorter telomeres, which are the protective caps on the ends of chromosomes. Shorter telomeres are associated with numerous age-related diseases and a shorter lifespan. Link to the study.

Managing Stress and Anxiety

Managing stress and anxiety is not just about feeling better in the moment; it’s a vital part of slowing down the aging process and promoting overall health. Here are some practical steps to help manage your thoughts and emotions:

  1. Mindfulness and Meditation: Engaging in regular mindfulness practices can help you stay present and reduce the overwhelming thoughts that contribute to stress. Your daily energy medicine routine, a guided meditation, breath work, tapping, or some time in nature can help create mindfulness. I've created thousands of videos for you across all social media platforms; find me @Heyloa (watch out for fake accounts).

  2. Move your amazing body: Exercise is a powerful stress reliever. Whether it’s a brisk walk, yoga, or a dance class, moving your body helps to release endorphins, which are natural mood lifters. I created a space in my home where I have easy access to hand weights, my yoga mat, and a foam roller.

  3. Fuel your body and eat well: Consuming a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals supports brain health. Those minerals can help manage stress levels. Foods like berries, nuts, and leafy greens are excellent choices. Drink lots of water in the summer heat.

  4. Sleep like a queen: Quality sleep is essential for cognitive function and emotional regulation. Having a set bedtime is pivotal for your well-being; know when you will GET IN THE BED (yes I used caps there). Establish a bedtime routine that promotes relaxation, such as reading or taking a warm bath.

  5. Social Connections: Building and maintaining strong social connections provides emotional support and helps buffer against stress. Spend time with friends and family, and don’t hesitate to seek professional support if needed.

  6. Positive Affirmations: Your words matter. Practice positive self-talk and affirmations to challenge negative thought patterns. Reminding yourself of your strengths and achievements can boost your confidence and resilience. Hear yourself often say silently: Well done. Or, That looks great. Or, I like how I feel right now; I'll keep this feeling.

The journey to managing stress and reversing aging begins with a shift in mindset.

by focusing on:

  • The things we can control and releasing the rest.
  • The energy directly in front of you to about three feet away from you, Keep it filled with a calm light.
  • Allowing other people to have their own emotions and not feeling for them.
  • Recognizing a thought that is not serving you or is making you feel bad and exchanging it for one of gratitude.

we can create a more balanced and fulfilling life. Remember, the power to age gracefully and live with less anxiety lies within you. Embrace this journey with an open heart and mind, and watch how your inner world transforms. Let it reflect outwardly in a youthful, vibrant glow.

Here's one of my secret pro tips for smooth skin:

On clean skin apply a layer of Needle-less serum. Take five slow, deep in and out breaths allowing time for the serum to soak in. When it is absorbed and no longer feels wet, dampen your fingers with water and smooth them across your face from the center or sides of your nose, sweeping outward. Slide up from your brows to your hairline in the same sweeping motion. Then slide down the neck. While you are "sweeping" the face, have the intention not to worry. At all. About anything. Let dry and continue to the next step in your morning routine.
